It’s been almost four years since the launch of the first iPhone, yet it still is the most desirable gadget for
most people. There have been four different versions of the iPhone, each one surpassing its
predecessor in terms of design, technology and more.
Apple, a company known for its top class product designs once again hit a sweet spot with the iPhone.
When the market leaders in the mobile phone industry tried millions of designs for their phones to stay
in the competition, Apple decided to choose a different path altogether. They chose the simplest of the
designs, just a screen and a home button at the bottom, yet it worked. Over the years, there have been
minor changes in the design of the iPhone, but then came the iPhone 4 which revamped the entire
lineup with razor sharp edges and gorilla glass on both the sides. The iPhone 4 is the best looking
iPhone ever, and possible the best looking mobile phone as well.
Before iPhone, most of us had not even dreamt of what wonders the capacitive touch screen could do.
Let it be the kinetic rubber band scrolling, the pinch and zoom, other multi touch gestures left the crowd
speechless. All the other players in the market followed suit, one after the other. Today, every other
smartphone has these as a standard feature. This made the iPhone a kind of standard in the mobile
phone industry. Whenever any smartphone was launched thereafter, the review sites always compared
it with the iPhone.
The user interface of the iPhone is a key factor to its success. Let it be the Mac, the iPod, or any other
Apple product, the user interface is always considered to be very simple and easy to use. The iPhone
was no different. People realized how simple working on a smartphone could be after using the iPhone.
Whether it is typing a text message, or browsing the web, or even making a phone call, everything
seems so simple.
Another reason which adds up to the iPhone’s success is the App store. As of October 20th, 2010, there
were at least 300,000 third-party applications officially available on the App Store. Adding to this there
is the iTunes store, which is the world’s largest online music store.
Almost all products have flaws, and Apple’s products are no different. But the difference is how they
handle them. Most companies try to hide them or even behave like nothing happened. But Apple is not
one of them. For instance, when the world criticized Apple for the flaw in iPhone 4 with the signal
reception, Steve Jobs himself addressed the press and admitted that it was a flaw which Apple
overlooked and offered free bumper cases for all iPhone 4s already sold the one’s yet to be sold. How
many companies CEO’s would do that?
Lastly it is the loyalty of the Apple customers. This did not happen in a single day. The customers have
stayed with Apple from the days of the first Macs and still are. New customers who invest in Apple
products are compelled to remain loyal because of their product line up, the after sales service and the
quality of the products. This is what that makes Apple the brand it is. One of the most trusted brands in
Way back in January 2007, during the launch of the iPhone Steve Jobs said, by introducing the iPhone,
Apple has just reinvented the phone. Now, we know, it is true.
